GNPS/TV Wins National & International Awards
Great Neck Public Schools Television (GNPS/TV) is the proud recipient of a national award through the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) 2023 Hometown Media Awards and two international awards through the 44th annual Telly Awards.
2023 Hometown Media Awards
The Hometown Media Awards is a national awards program that recognizes outstanding community media and local cable programs that are distributed on Public, Educational, and Governmental access cable television channels. Nearly one thousand entries are submitted each year.
GNPS/TV was awarded the top prize in the Best Entertainment and Arts Series category for Student Filmmaker Showcase. This program highlights short films produced, edited, and directed by middle and high school students in the District. Student Filmmaker Showcase features a variety of films and styles, including fictional films, public service announcements, and more.
44th Annual Telly Awards
The Telly Awards is an international program that honors excellence in video and television across a variety of platforms. GNPS/TV received two Silver Telly trophies in the Television-Student area of competition: one for a Board of Education Appreciation video, and a second for Remembering Dr. William A. Shine.
The award-winning Board of Education Appreciation video was produced by the GNPS/TV team in partnership with District middle schools in October 2022. This video, created in celebration of New York State School Board Recognition Week, highlighted middle school programs and the successful return to in-person learning following the pandemic.
Remembering Dr. William A. Shine was a community event that honored the life and legacy of the late Dr. William A. Shine, who had served as superintendent of the Great Neck Public Schools for more than 20 years. This Telly Award recognizes both the filming/editing of the live community event held at South High School on June 2, 2022, as well as a 5-minute tribute video prepared by the GNPS/TV crew that aired during the event.
GNPS/TV programs air on Optimum Channel 75 or Verizon FiOS Channel 32 within the Incorporated Villages of Great Neck, and are available on-demand on the district website.
