  • Mock Caledcott Results

Grade 2 enjoyed a Mock Caldecott award program presented by Ms. Rachel Sferlazza, Head of Children's Services from The Great Neck Library, on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. Readers voted on one of three titles for the Baker Mock Caldecott winner! We can't wait to find out if our book winner is in the running for the ALA Caldecott Award announced in January 2022!

  • Virtual Author Visit

In this virtual visit for students in grades 3, 4, and 5, Mr. Soentpiet treated students and staff to a tour of his incredible studio.  We saw how his illustrations begin with pencil sketches and progress through a multi-step process of painting. Students viewed many brushes, paints, and paint palettes used to create his award-winning illustrations.  Mr. Soentpiet left us with the advice that his mother gave him as a boy: work hard, follow your dreams, and believe in yourself!
