6th grader, Brian Liu, made it to the semifinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC

Brian Liu Wins the Regional Spelling Bee
Brian Liu, 11, a sixth-grader at Great Neck North Middle School, won the ScholarSkills Long Island Spelling Bee held Friday night in Dix Hills. He beat 47 other spellers, winning with a word that people see on menus all the time — "Bolognese."

NMS Welcomes Mr. Nelson as the new Assistant Principal
Mr. Nelson comes to Great Neck from the North Shore Central School District, where he has served as the middle school assistant principal since 2018. However, members of the GNPS community may recognize Mr. Nelson from his three years as a school counselor at North Middle School from 2015–18.

Farewell Ms. Andersen
NMS wishes Ms. Andersen well as she has moved from her position as North Middle Assistant Principal to become the Director of Community Education. She spent 27 years at NMS and will surely be missed even though she hasn't gone far.
