    Bernstein 7 Time Gold Star Winner

    Jeffrey Bernstein, economics, social studies and government teacher at the Village School, has been named a 2014–15 Gold Star Teacher by W!SE (Working in Support of Education). This is the seventh time he has received this award.

    Village School Recognized by GNHS

    The Village School, an alternative high school, was recently honored by the Great Neck Historical Society as part of their Heritage Recognition Program. The school was presented with a plaque, to “identify and honor” the Village School as among Great Neck’s “Most Notable Homes & Buildings,” and with a recognition certificate that contains a brief history of the Village School building.

    Profile Rises at School Where Going Against the Grain Is the Norm

    GREAT NECK, N.Y. — A high school social studies class was studying the federal government’s response to Hurricane Katrina on a recent afternoon, without any readings, lessons or even desks. Only one student was taking notes.
