  • Due to the severity of this pandemic, and in the best interests of our students, staff and global community, the Great Neck Public Schools are closed until further notice. You will be notified at least 48 hours before schools are to reopen.

    A team of school psychologists and social workers from every building have compiled valuable mental health resources to support our community. Please visit the Metal Health Resources section to review the GNPS Crisis Resource Guides.

    Effective March 30, school meal services will change from a daily service to a twice-a-week service. "Grab and Go" bagged meals will be offered every Monday and Thursday from our two pick-up locations. Please see the School Meal Program section for more details. 

    The deadline to submit a non-public school tranportation application for the 2020-21 school year has been extended to April 15. Please see the non-public school transportation announcement on our homepage for more details.

"Grab and Go" School Meal Program

  • Our Food and Nutrition Department continues to offer “Grab and Go” bagged meal services. In accordance with the Governor's stay-at-home orders to limit the spread of the virus, meal distribution is changing from a daily service to twice a week.

    Meal pick-up is available Friday, March 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the rear kitchen entrances at both North Middle School and South High School. Effective Monday, March 30, meals will be distributed every Monday and Thursday. Family members will receive multiple days worth of meals for the students in their household.

    Please know that our dedicated food and nutrition staff are taking every precaution possible to ensure the safety of your family, as well as their own. Please use the correct social distancing methods while picking up meals.

SCOPE Emergency Child Care Services

  • The district has partnered with SCOPE Education Services to provide emergency school-aged child care. This program is for children in Prekindergarten through Grade 6, and it will take place at Lakeville Elementary School, 47-27 Jayson Ave. 

    Registration is limited to district families currently enrolled in SCOPE, as well as First Responders and Medical Personnel. This program is dependent upon sufficient enrollment.

    Great Neck school officials are closely monitoring the developing situation regarding Novel Coronavirus and abiding by all guidance provided by the Nassau County Department of Health (DOH), New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), New York State Education Department (NYSED), and the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

    Q: How long will schools be closed?

    A: Due to the severity of this pandemic, and in the best interest of our school community, the Great Neck Public Schools are closed until further notice. School community members will be notified at least 48 hours before schools are to reopen. Please continue to check the district website, your email, and text messages for updates.

    During this closure, district leaders will remain in contact with representatives from the Nassau County Department of Health (DOH), as well as officials at the County and State levels, for developments and guidance.

    Meals are available for school-age children through the district's school nutrition program. Please see the "Grab and Go" School Meal Program page for more details. 

     

    Q: How will the district maintain continuity of instruction while schools are closed?

    A: Over the past few weeks, our educators have been planning and preparing for continuity of instruction in the event of an extended closure. Remote learning from home began for all students, Pre-K through Grade 12, on Wednesday, March 18. Please check your email for additional detials provided by your child’s classroom teacher and/or building principal.

     

    Q: What further steps has the district taken to limit the spread of the virus?

    A: Large school events and field trips are postponed through April 20. This includes school plays, performances, luncheons, and student recognitions. If possible, these events will be rescheduled. 

    Additionally, the district’s afternoon, evening, and weekend recreation programs are suspended through April 20. 

    All use of facilities by any outside individual or group is suspended through April 20.

     

    Q: What can I do to help prevent the spread of the virus?

    A: While schools are closed, please practice social distancing by limiting non-essential contact with others to minimize exposure. Whenever possible, avoid hosting or attending social activities, large gatherings, or public events; arranging playdates or sleepovers; going to the mall; working out in a gym; or taking mass transit. 

    Also, continue to follow all recommendations from health officials. CDC guidelines for proper hygiene including frequent and thorough hand washing, coughing/sneezing into a tissue/your elbow, disinfecting frequently-touched surfaces, staying home when sick, and avoiding others who are sick.
