What is SEL?
Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. The JFK School follows the Responsive Classroom Approach to teaching and learning. We have also incorporated Mindfulness which complements the Responsive Classroom Approach. We painted a labyrinth on the blacktop for all to use, we created a mindfulness room, and every Monday morning, we present a school-wide mindfulness exercise.
