Transportation to Schools Outside the District: New York State law requires the district to provide transportation to private schools located up to 15 miles from a student's residence.

Special Service: The placement of students in programs to meet individual needs are in schools located throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. This also requires special transportation arrangements and accounts for higher costs.

Unlike the regulation for non-handicapped students that sets an April 1 deadline to apply for transportation to schools outside the district, handicapped students, by law, must receive transportation throughout the school year.
