    We thank the community for its ongoing support of education in Great Neck.

    Capital Projects Proposition: On Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, qualified voters in the Great Neck Public School District will be asked to authorize a proposed $17,184,085 Capital Projects Proposition. This Proposition will have no negative impact on taxpayers and will be totally funded from the district's Unassigned Fund Balance.


    • Hearings on Capital Projects Proposition: The Board of Education will hold two public hearings on the proposed Capital Projects. There will be discussion of the Projects and an opportunity for the community to pose any questions or concerns. The first hearing will be at the Board's Public Action Meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 8:30 p.m., at North High School, 35 Polo Rd. The second hearing will be at the Board's Public Action Meeting on Monday, Feb. 6, at 8 p.m., at the Cumberland Adult Center, 30 Cumberland Ave.

    • Proposed Capital Projects: The Capital Projects Proposition will cover renovations, repairs, and improvements to the district's aging buildings and grounds, as follows:

      • Districtwide Improvements: wire buildings for time-clock connectivity; and technology equipment upgrades, improvements, and purchases.
      • Generator Expansion and Enhancement: North High/Middle Schools, Baker School, Kennedy School, Lakeville School, Saddle Rock School, Parkville School, Parkville Annex, Cumberland Adult Center, Clover Drive Adult Learning Center, Grace Avenue School, and Security Building.
      • Auditorium Improvements: lighting and acoustical at North High School, South High School, and Saddle Rock School.
      • Athletic Improvements: renovate athletic fields and running track at North High/Middle Schools and South High School, and basketball courts and tennis courts at South Middle School.
      • Lakeville School: refurbish parking lot; and replace roof and boiler/climate control/steam traps.
      • North Middle School: masonry/pointing/incinerator removal; renovate bathrooms; and repair stairwells.
      • Parkville Annex: renovate space.
      • Saddle Rock School: repair wall on the west side to stop water penetration.
      • South High/Middle Schools Campus: reconstruct the Lakeville Road walkway along the west side.
      • Cumberland Adult Center: replace boiler/climate control/steam trap and roof.

    • Voting on Proposed Capital Projects Proposition:
      • Voting on the Proposed Capital Projects Proposition will be held on Feb. 14, 2012 from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. There are two voting locations: Baker School (69 Baker Hill Rd.) for residents living north of the LIRR, and South High School (341 Lakeville Rd.), for residents living south of the LIRR.

    • Applications for Absentee Ballots:
      • Qualified registered voters can obtain Applications for Absentee Ballots online or from the District Clerk, Phipps Admin. Bldg., 345 Lakeville Rd., school days, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (516-441-4020). Residents whose registration records are marked "permanently disabled" automatically receive absentee ballots. Completed absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14.
