  • Board Trustee Barbara Berkowitz Announces Intention to Step Down June 30

    At the Feb. 15 Board meeting, Trustee Barbara Berkowitz announced her intention to resign from the Board of Education effective June 30, 2023. Her current three-year term on the Board was scheduled to expire on June 30, 2024. Mrs. Berkowitz is among the longest-serving Board trustees in District history, having served for a total of 31 years.

  • Deadline to Register for Non-Public School Transportation is April 1

    The Great Neck Public Schools provides free transportation for children attending non-public schools who meet walking distance-from-school requirements. The deadline to apply for non-public school transportation for the 2023–24 school year is April 1, as determined by New York State Education Law.

  • SCOPE Virtual Foreign Language Enrichment Program

    The District has partnered with SCOPE Education Services to offer a new virtual language enrichment program in Spanish or Mandarin Chinese that will expose children to early reading skills, vocabulary, and spoken phrases from these languages. SCOPE's expert linguistic educators will lead an immersive language experience that children can attend from the comfort of home. Courses are one hour in the evenings via ZOOM and all lessons are recorded in case a child needs to miss a class. Click on the announcement title for more information.

Registration Information

  • Online Registration Dates for 2023–24 Kindergarten & UPK 

    All applications to register for Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) and Kindergarten for the 2023–24 school year will be processed online.

    Universal Pre-K

    The District offers a UPK program to all Great Neck School District residents at no cost. UPK Online Registration is currently open. To enroll, children must be 4 years old by Dec. 1, 2023.  



    Kindergarten Online Registration will open on Jan. 17, 2023. All children who will attend public or private school kindergarten in Sept. 2023 must be registered. Any child who legally resides within the school district and will be 5 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2023 is eligible for kindergarten.

Superintendent Search

  • The Board of Education has partnered with District Wise Search Consultants to facilitate a nationwide search for the successor candidate to lead the District following the retirement of Dr. Teresa Prendergast, effective July 21, 2023. Updates will be shared throughout the process on the Superintendent Search web page
